Maartje Teussink is een songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, componiste en vocaliste uit Nederland. Na een basisstudie op klarinet, en met lessen op drums, en spelend in plaatselijke bandjes, studeerde zij op de the Janacek Music Academy in Brno op de afdeling percussie (prof.Opršal) en klassieke zang (wijlen prof. Hrabal). Op de Amsterdamse Toneelschool en Kleinkunstacademie, met een soloproject onder begeleiding van Bram Vermeulen in 2002, studeerde zij na een extra (master) jaar af in 2003 en vervolgde een studie (2 jaar) op de Rietveldacademie in Amsterdam en als artist-in-residentie (Burren College of Art, Ierland) en particuliere lessen (contrabas, particuliere lessen), zangles (Edwin van Gelder, Marja Gamal, Bark Kiene tijdens studieperiode), masterclasses (zang bij Lucia Meeuwsen, klassieke zangcursus Prof. Uribe (Budapest, Hongarije) en muziektheorie.
Naast het opbouwen van ervaring in verscheidene theaterproducties als componist en live performer, ontwikkelt zij uitgaves in eigen beheer. Zij zoekt naar een muzikale ontwikkeling door alternatieve popmuziek te combineren met klassieke invloeden. In 2018 is haar nieuwste digitale release ‘Organic Cities’ uitgebracht door Bertus Ditstributie en vervolgens op cd uitgebracht in 2019.
Met eigen composities won zij in 2000 de Grote Prijs van Nederland in de categorie Singer Songwriter. Voor verschillende producties en gezelschappen schreef en bracht zij live eigen composities; Orkater, Ro Theater (Alize Zandwijk), Theater Bremen (Productions directed by Alize Zandwijk), Schauspielhaus Zürich, Generale Oost, Theater Maatwerk, Saskia Boddeke en Peter Greenaway, het Oerol festival, filmscores (Slaaf, 2014) voor Wouterse & Pronkproductions, muziek voor moderne dans bij Conny Janssen Danst (Courage, 2016 en ‘Broos’ 2019) en andere vrije producties zoals ‘De Laatste’ by Jack Wouterse. In oktober 2022 verschijnt haar meest recente album ‘Only Lightyears’ op Spotify, Deezer & Apple Music.
Verder is zij actief als componist en tekstschrijver voor andere songwriters, voor theaterproducties, filmmuziek, multimedia installaties, dansperformances en vrije producties. Als onafhankelijke creator van muziek, zoekt zij wegen om haar expertise als componist te ontwikkelen, maar ook als tekstschrijver, producer, en publisher voor haar eigen werk en voor derden onder de naam ‘Thoughtrecords’. www.thoughtrecords.com
Haar studio is gesitueerd in Schiebroek, zij is getrouwd, en woont met haar gezin en twee kinderen in Rotterdam en is ook actief als muziekleraar.
Maartje Teussink is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer and vocalist from the Netherlands. After having done studies on drums and clarinet in the Netherlands, she studied at the Janácek Music Academy in Brno, Czech Republic at the department percussion and classical singing. She continued her studies at the Academy for Music and Theater in Amsterdam where she finished her studies in 2003 and continued for music part-time studies on an individual basis and self taught development as a multi-instrumentalist.
Next to gathering experience as a composer and live musician and performer in several national and international theater – and contemporary dance productions her compositions have been released as self handled music releases . Combining alternative pop music with classical influences, releasing popalbums, filmscores and instrumental pieces. In 2018, her release ‘Organic Cities’ has been distributed by Bertus Distribution.

Her music style can be described as lyrical and alternative, combining different musical influences and instruments such as guitars, drums, bass, piano, synthesizer, vocals, samples, clarinet, bouzouki, percussion, double bass etc. This way, playing and performing as a musician and sound designer, musical layers are created, resulting in songs, musical spheres, music for theater, soundscapes, music for contemporary dance, music for media and filmscores.
